The sculptor Anna Petrus (1886–1949) was a pioneer in Swedish design and one of the most interesting sculptors of the 20th century. Petrus had her breakthrough at the Baltic exhibition in Malmö in 1914. After that she participated in several other exhibitions, including the exhibition in Gothenburg in 1923, the world exhibition in Paris in 1925 and the Stockholm exhibition in 1930. For Näfveqvarn's use she designed cast iron columns for the Swedish pavilion at the Paris exhibition. The pavilion was designed by architect Carl Bergsten. Details of the pillars would then be transformed into flower pots. It is one of these pots that is now made in a new edition by Näfveqvarn.
Cast iron is a living material and each product is unique. Properly maintained, a cast iron product can last for generations. The patina the cast iron gets over time is part of the product's unique value. Näfveqvarn's products are finished with alcohol-based paint to withstand moisture and water. How long the paint protects depends, among other things, on the weather and wind. If you want to give a new shine to the products, you can brush them with a wire brush and paint a new coat of paint.
